FixIt is organized to educate our East End community about proper animal care and treatment and especially the importance of spaying and neutering their pets.

We will also provide free spay and neuter for pets belonging to low income residents living in 77003, 77011, 77012 and 77023 zip codes; in exchange, we will ask the residents to volunteer to help educate others about the importance of fixing their pets.

Each month, we will have a Community Awareness Day at a different location in the East End.  We will set up tables to distribute literature and sign up residents' pets to be fixed.

The spay/neuter surgery will happen on a future date at a local vet clinic. We will also walk the nearby neighborhood streets to distribute door hangers and talk to residents.

We need volunteers to:

Talk to residents (Spanish-language ability useful but not required).

Walk the surrounding neighborhood and distribute literature.

Do other community outreach as needed.

Wear your Barrio Dogs t-shirt if you have one. If not, we will provide.

Please do not bring your personal dog or pet with you.

For safety reasons, no children under 10 years old please. Older children okay as long as they are accompanied by an adult.

If you can't volunteer but want to help, you can:

Donate pet food (medium to high quality dry dog food) and new or gently used collars and leashes. You can drop off at a Barrio Dogs' event or contact us to make arrangements for drop off/pick up.

Donate to our free spay/neuter program.
